Sister taxa: Toyotamaphimeia machikanensis, Toyotamaphimeia taiwanicus
Type specimen: MOUF00001, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Osaka University, Machikaneyama, which is in a Pleistocene mire/swamp claystone in the Ibaraki Formation of Japan.
