Holotype: UF 94526, nearly complete braincase posterior to interorbital constriction, lacking only zygomatic arches, with associated left periotic.

Collected by Lawrence H. Martin, Jr., in May 11983

Etymology: From the greek Archaios, ancient, old, and daptes, eater of blood by sucking. The name referes to the fack that this id the oldest known species of vampire bat.

Type specimen: UF 94526, a skull (nearly complete braincase posterior to interorbital constriction, lacking only zygomatic arches, with associated left periotic.). Its type locality is Haile 21A Desmodus, which is in an Irvingtonian terrestrial horizon in Florida.
