Sister taxa: Leiopelma acricarina, Leiopelma auroraensis, Leiopelma hamiltoni, Leiopelma hochstetteri, Leiopelma markhami, Leiopelma waitomoensis

Type specimen: NMNZ S.52919, a partial skeleton (Partial right ilium). Its type locality is HH1b Home Hills Station (H41/f90), which is in an Altonian lacustrine - large sandstone in the Bannockburn Formation of New Zealand.

Ecology: amphibious carnivore

Distribution:
