Type specimen: USNM 542417, a partial skeleton (adult skull, missing distal part of rostrum; associated postcranium comprising thoracic 11–18, lum- bar 1–3, sacral 1, and caudal 1–4 vertebrae, chevron 2, righ). Its type locality is LACM Loc. 8060, Río Guatemala, which is in an Oligocene lagoonal conglomerate in the San Sebastian Formation of Puerto Rico.
