Sister taxa: Douglassciurus jeffersoni, Douglassciurus oaxacaensis

Type specimen: SDSM 56506, a mandible (right dentary with i1, p4–m3). Its type locality is Cedar Pass (SDSM V712), which is in a Whitneyan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.

Ecology: scansorial granivore-frugivore

Distribution:

• Oligocene of United States (1: South Dakota collection)

• Eocene to Oligocene of United States (1: Nebraska)
