Type specimens:

  • Prohyracodon meridionale: V0046, a maxilla. Its type locality is Kaofenpei, which is in an Eocene terrestrial horizon in the Lumeiyi Formation of China.
  • Prohyracodon progressa: V0045, a partial skull (Palate). Its type locality is Hsiaoshaho, which is in an Eocene terrestrial horizon in the Lumeiyi Formation of China.

Ecology: ground dwelling browser

Distribution:

• Eocene of China (4 collections), Mongolia (1)
