Sister taxa: Nelepsittacus daphneleeae, Nelepsittacus minimus
Type specimen: NMNZ S.52016, a limb element (Tarsometatarsus). Its type locality is HH1b Home Hills Station (H41/f90), which is in an Altonian lacustrine - large sandstone in the Bannockburn Formation of New Zealand.
Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore
