Sister taxa: Kansuchelys ovalis, Kansuchelys tsiyuanensis
Type specimen: IVPP V 1006, a partial skeleton (carapace and plastron with right posterior part damaged). Its type locality is Kansuchelys chiayukuanensis type locality, which is in an Eocene/Oligocene terrestrial horizon in China.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore-herbivore
Distribution: found only at Kansuchelys chiayukuanensis type locality
