Belongs to Onchiodon according to Werneburg 1989
Sister taxa: Onchiodon credneri, Onchiodon labyrinthicus, Onchiodon manebachensis, Onchiodon thuringiensis
Type specimen: NHM P15, a partial skeleton (skull and partial postcranial skeleton). Its type locality is Sembachtal near Winterstein, which is in a Gzhelian terrestrial horizon in the Ilmenau Formation of Germany.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Sembachtal near Winterstein
