Sister taxa: Nycticorax caledonicus, Nycticorax duboisi, Nycticorax fidens, Nycticorax mauritianus, Nycticorax megacephalus, Nycticorax nycticorax, Nycticorax olsoni
Type specimen: MNZ S37651, a set of limb elements (tarsometarsus). Its type locality is Anakuli Cave, Hakupu, which is in a Holocene cave horizon in Niue.
Ecology: volant piscivore
Distribution: found only at Anakuli Cave, Hakupu
