Type specimens:

  • Protypotherium colloncurensis: MLP 91-IX-4-26, a skull (skull fragmented in several pieces: hemi- palates with right and left M1–3, part of basicranium and posterodorsal fragment of vault). Its type locality is Chico River, which is in a Colloncuran terrestrial sandstone in the Collón Cura Formation of Argentina.
  • Protypotherium concepcionensis: SGO.PV.21000, a skull. Its type locality is Puente Tucapel, which is in a Serravallian fluvial sandstone in the Cura-Mallín Formation of Chile.

Ecology: scansorial herbivore
