Emended diagnosis. The smallest species of Metacaremys.m12 with occasional presence of mesolophid spur. Mesoflexid more persistent than metaflexid, especially in the m1. Bottom of the metaflexid/fossettid of the m2 curved.

- Metacaremys primitiva: MMP 317-M, a mandible (left mandibular fragment with m1–2 and dp4 alveolus). Its type locality is Barrancas del Arroyo Chasicó, which is in a Chasicoan terrestrial horizon in the Arroyo Chasicó Formation of Argentina.
- Cercomys primitiva: MMP M317, a mandible (Trozo de cuerpo mandibular iZ'quierdo con parte del incisivo, alvéolo del 'dm4 y ml-m2 implantados.). Its type locality is Barrancas del Arroyo Chasicó, which is in a Chasicoan terrestrial horizon in the Arroyo Chasicó Formation of Argentina.
- Chasicomys cangapoli: MMP 1501-M, a maxilla (maxilar derecho con DP4-M3). Its type locality is Barrancas del Arroyo Chasicó, which is in a Chasicoan terrestrial horizon in the Arroyo Chasicó Formation of Argentina.
