Derivation of name: From stratus, Latinized form of stratos (Greek: ), genitive. In honour of Stratos Asmanis in recognition of his warmhearted hospitality during our work in the Michalos pit.

Type specimen: UM Thy 0–30, a tooth (left M1). Its type locality is Michalos, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in Greece.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

Distribution: found only at Michalos
