Sister taxa: Branchiosaurus darrahi, Branchiosaurus salamandroides
Type specimen: MNHNP – COM 259, a skeleton (skull). Its type locality is Commentry, which is in a Stephanian C terrestrial horizon in France.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Commentry
