Etymology. Species epithet refers to the type area in and adjacent to the Oglala National Grasslands, which is named for a Lakotan community in the region.

Sister taxa: none

Type specimen: UF 527000, nearly complete carapace and associated plastral forelobe, a partial shell. Its type locality is Sand Creek Ranch, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the Chadron Formation of Nebraska.
