Derivation of name. L. costae; plus vermiculatus, worm. With reference to the many ribs on the surface of the species, many of which are notably worm-like.

Type specimen: LM-FCEN 3432, a carapace. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 5, which is in a Maastrichtian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.
