Scaphites (Hoploscaphites) gilli Cobban and Jeletzky 1965 (ammonite)

Cephalopoda - Ammonitida - Scaphitidae

Diagnosis.-This small- to medium-sized species is characterized by its moderately to tightly coiled shell, narrow cross section, and densely ribbed living chamber. The oral part of the living chamber is almost in contact with the spire in most specimens and actually touches it in some. On internal molds of living chambers, ribbing is conspicuous only on the umbilical wall. Nodes, which are present on a few individuals, are few in number and are confined to the ventrolateral margin of the adult living chamber. The suture is of average complexity for the genus.
