Type specimens:

  • Paramerychyus harrisonensis: CM 1341, a partial skull (a fairly well preserved skull which has been somewhat crushed vertically and is without the lower jaws). Its type locality is Van Tassel (Lower), which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.
  • Eporeodon relictus: AMNH 13813, a partial skull (a "considerably mutilated skull" [Thorpe 1937]; Partial skull with C/(rt.)-M3). Its type locality is American Horse Creek, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Harrison Formation of South Dakota.
  • Merychyus siouxensis: AMNH 13774, a skull (Skull with I2-M3).

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

• Harrisonian of United States (12: Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming collections)

• Oligocene of United States (2: Nebraska, South Dakota)
