Type specimen: USNM VP-8629, a partial skeleton (an incomplete skull, which includes the posterior skull roof (consisting of prefrontals, frontals, postorbitals, squamosals, the right and left quadrates, parie). Its type locality is 4 mi southwest of Kimbetoh (USNM 8629), which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Kirtland Formation of New Mexico.
