Sister taxa: Helochelydra anglica, Helochelydra bakewelli
Type specimen: BMNH R171, a partial skeleton (substantial portions of a highly fragmented shell with girdle elements). Its type locality is Isle of Wight (general), which is in a Barremian/Aptian terrestrial horizon in the United Kingdom.
