Sister taxon: Coelostylodon caroloameghinoi
Type specimen: MMP 723M, right C and P3-M3; skull, a skull. Its type locality is Barranca south of Lago Colhue-Huapi, Gran Barranca, which is in a Bartonian terrestrial claystone in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.
Ecology: scansorial herbivore
Distribution: found only at Barranca south of Lago Colhue-Huapi, Gran Barranca
