Sister taxa: Aetiocetus cotylalveus, Aetiocetus weltoni

Type specimen: AMP 12, a partial skull. Its type locality is Morawan (Upper tuffaceous Siltstone Member), which is in a Chattian basinal (siliceous) siltstone in the Morawan Formation of Japan.

Ecology: aquatic carnivore-suspension feeder

Distribution: found only at Morawan (Upper tuffaceous Siltstone Member)
