Sister taxon: Helagras orellanensis

Type specimen: AMNH 1628, a set of vertebrae (two posterior thoracic vertebrae). Its type locality is San Juan Basin (non-specific), which is in a Puercan terrestrial horizon in the Nacimiento Formation of New Mexico.

Ecology: planktonic suspension feeder
