Taxonomy

Pleurotoma (Pleurofusia) was named by de Gregorio (1890) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l T Mi-l]. It is extant. Its type is Pleurotoma (Pleurofusia) longirostropsis.

It was Surcula (Pleurofusia) by Vredenburg (1921); it was Turricula (Pleurofusia) by Olsson (1932), Harris and Palmer (1947); it was reranked as Pleurofusia by Woodring (1970), Dockery (1977), Squires (1984), Squires (1987), Petuch (1997), Todd (2001), Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Pleurotoma by de Gregorio (1890); to Surcula by Vredenburg (1921); to Turricula by Olsson (1932), Harris and Palmer (1947); to Turriculinae by Woodring (1970), Squires (1984), Squires (1987), Petuch (1997); to Turridae by Dockery (1977), Todd (2001); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
