Taxonomy
Palaeostylus was named by Mansuy (1914) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 109,797,1130]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Palaeostylinae.
It was assigned to Pseudozygopleurinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Procerithiidae by Batten (1985), Pan and Erwin (2002); to Palaeostylinae by Bouchet et al. (2005); to Paleostylidae by Mazaev (2015); and to Orthonemidae by Nützel and Bandel (2000), Wagner (2023).
It was assigned to Pseudozygopleurinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Procerithiidae by Batten (1985), Pan and Erwin (2002); to Palaeostylinae by Bouchet et al.
