Taxonomy

Cladodus was named by Agassiz (1843). Its type is Cladodus mirabilis. It is the type genus of Cladodontidae.

It was assigned to Hybodontes by Agassiz (1843); to Hybodontidae by Leidy (1873); to Cladodontidae by Hay (1902), Jordan (1963); to Cladoselachidae by Thurmond and Jones (1981); and to Ctenacanthidae by Goto and Okura (2004), Duffin and Ginter (2006), Ginter et al. (2010).
