Furcophyllia shaitanica was named by Melnikova and Roniewicz (2007). Its type locality is Sajtan river, Kattamardzanaj river area, SE Pamir, which is in a Ladinian perireef or subreef limestone/sandstone in the Kattamardzanaj Formation of Tajikistan.
