Eosauropus was named by Lockley et al. (2006). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Eosauropus cimarronensis.
It was assigned to Sauropodomorpha by Lockley et al. (2006), Lucas et al. (2006), Hunt and Lucas (2007); and to Sauropoda by Salisbury et al. (2016).
