Geocoma carinata

Taxonomy

Ophiura carinata was named by Goldfuss (1833). Its type specimen is Neotype NMB M10637 and is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Geocoma.

It was recombined as Geocoma carinata by d'Orbigny (1850), Boehm (1889), Hess (1960), Spencer and Wright (1966), Frickhinger (1994), Kutscher (1997), Hess and Meyer (2008).

Synonyms

Ophiocten kelheimense was named by Boehm (1889).

It was recombined as Ophiopsammus kelheimensis by Enay and Hess (1970), Bourseau et al. (1991); it was recombined as Sinosura kelheimense by Kutscher and Röper (1995), Kutscher (1997); it was recombined as Sinosura kelheimensis by Hess (1999); it was synonymized subjectively with Geocoma carinata by Hess and Meyer (2008).
Ophiopinna derecta was named by Hess (1963). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Museum Basel, M 6230. Its type locality is Echinoderms, claytone, Koenigi zone, Liesberg-Dorf, Berner Jura, which is in a Callovian offshore claystone in Switzerland.

It was recombined as Sinosura derecta by Hess (1964), Hess (1975), Kutscher (1987), Meyer et al. (1994); it was synonymized subjectively with Sinosura kelheimense by Kutscher and Röper (1995).
