Taxonomy
Madrepora solida was named by Forskal (1775). It is extant. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 738, Coyote Mountain, which is in a Pliocene marine sandstone in the Imperial Formation of California.
It was recombined as Porites solida by Klunzinger (1879); it was recombined as Goniastrea solida by Gardiner (1904).
