Lasmosmilia bajocina was named by d'Orbigny (1850). Its type specimen is lectotype MNHN.F.R54663, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Thecosmilia bajociana by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1851); it was recombined as Thecosmilia bajociensis by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1857), de Fromentel (1861); it was recombined as Latiphyllia bajociana by Beauvais (1967).
