Climaconeura was named by Pruvost (1912). Its type is Climaconeura reumauxi. It is the type genus of Climaconeuridae.

It was assigned to Protorthoptera by Pruvost (1912); to Oedischiidae by Pruvost (1919); to Climaconeuridae by Handlirsch (1919), Handlirsch (1922); and to Neoptera by Carpenter (1992).
