Taxonomy
Typhis (Typhina) mississippiensis was named by Gertman (1969). Its type specimen is USNM 646213, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 226 - Hiwannee [Red Bluff Clay], which is in an Oligocene marine claystone in the Red Bluff Clay Formation of Mississippi.
