Dermomurex (Dermomurex) matercula was named by Vokes (1975). Its type specimen is USNM 647442, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 810 - Taylor Branch [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
