Illaenus erastusi was named by Raymond (1905) [Lectotype designated by Shaw (1968). Paratype: YPM 7410B.]. Its type specimen is YPM 7410A (lectotype), a cephalon/head, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Bumastus erastusi by Raymond (1910), Raymond (1925); it was recombined as Platillaenus erastusi by Shaw (1968).
