Taxonomy
Italolestes stroppai was named by Nel et al. (2005). Its type specimen is N 1734, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Monte Castellaro (Museo Fiorenzuola collection), which is in a Messinian lagoonal marl in Italy. It is the type species of Italolestes.
