Lophophyllidium plummeri was named by Jeffords (1947). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gunsight, Wayland Shale, Stephens, which is in a Virgilian marine shale in the Graham Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Lophophyllidium (Lophophyllidium) plummeri by Fedorowski (1987).
