Taxonomy
Kansasia was named by Tillyard (1937). Its type is Kansasia pulchra. It is the type genus of Kansasiidae.

It was assigned to Spilapteridae by Tillyard (1937); to Permothemidae by Rohdendorf (1940); to Kansasiidae by Demoulin (1954); and to Palaeodictyoptera by Carpenter (1992).
