Taxonomy
Anomocare butes was named by Walcott (1905) [Anomocare? butes]. Its type specimen is USNM 58168, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Anomocarella butes by Walcott (1913); it was recombined as Proasaphiscus butes by Peng et al. (2004); it was recombined as Iranoleesia butes by Jell and Hughes (1997), Peng et al. (2009).
