Pseudomegalaspis was named by Jaanusson (1953). Its type is Megalaspis formosa.

It was assigned to Asaphinae by Henningsmoen (1960); to Asaphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
