Paracryphaeus was named by Gandl (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: S u D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 421,983,1106]. It is not extant. Its type is Cryphaeus jonesi.

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Acastidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
