Taxonomy
Portunus tenuis was named by Rathbun (1919). Its type specimen is USNM 324478, a claw, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cercado de Mao - Bluff No. 3 [Cercado Fm], which is in a Tortonian offshore claystone in the Cercado Formation of the Dominican Republic.
