Taxonomy
Ecolsonia cutlerensis was named by Vaughn (1969). Its type specimen is UCLA VP1734, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Van der Hoof Quarry, which is in a Wolfcampian terrestrial claystone/siltstone in the El Cobre Canyon Formation of New Mexico.
