Pinnachorista problematica was named by Novokshonov (1994). Its type specimen is PIN 1781/80, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Karaungir-II (PIN collection 2781), which is in a Changhsingian lacustrine mudstone in the Akkolka Formation of Kazakhstan.
