Taxonomy
Pteronidia was named by Bolton (1912). Its type is Pteronidia plicatula. It is the type genus of Pteronidiae.

It was assigned to Pteronidiae by Bolton (1912); to Pteronidiidae by Handlirsch (1919), Bolton (1921), Handlirsch (1922); and to Palaeodictyoptera by Carpenter (1992).
