Cratoparis adumbratus was named by Wickham (1911). It is an impression. Its type locality is Florissant, Station 9, which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Euparius adumbratus by Wickham (1920); it was misspelled as Euparius adumbrates by Legalov (2015).
