Xinjiangchelys tianshanensis

Taxonomy
Xinjiangchelys tianshanensis was named by Nessov (1995). Its type specimen is CCMGE 1/12526, a set of postcrania (shell, vertebrae, bones of girdles and extremities), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality FTA-30, Sarykamyshsay, Naryn River, Fergana, near Tashkumyr, which is in a Callovian lagoonal claystone in the Balabansai Formation of Kyrgyzstan.

L. A. Nessov 1995Outer relief of the shell has only small, not very prominent folds. The width of the nuchal nuchal plate alongside the margin of carapace is 42 - 51% of posterior width of this plate. Cut-out pattern of anterior margin of carapace is relatively deep and not wide. The first peripheral plate has relatively narrow area of the contact with I costal plate or this contact is absent. The first suprapygal plate has sharp lateral ends which do not have contacts with XI peripheral plates.
