Scruparia was named by Oken (1815) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Scrupariidae, Scrupariina, Scruparioidea.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Scrupariidae by Bassler (1953), Gordon (2012).
