Holotype: A holotype was not formally designated. Hoffstetter
(1954) noted that the right dentary figured by Lund (1839c:pl.
10, fig. 3) is the type of the species.
Taxonomy
Megalonyx bucklandi was named by Lund (1839). It is the type species of Valgipes.
It was recombined as Valgipes bucklandi by Cartelle et al. (2009).
