Spinidinium was named by Cookson and Eisenack (1962). It is not extant. Its type is Spinidinium styloniferum.

It was assigned to Deflandreaceae by Cookson and Eisenack (1962); and to Peridiniaceae by Cookson and Eisenak (1962).
